So for vegans I just wanna put this out there: the infamous Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte is NOT vegan! Yeah, that shit has milk in it. It's ridiculous. Luckily there's a recipe for a vegan PSL that you can make at home on Kathy's blog.
I confirmed this information today at my favorite Starbucks. After ordering my regular soy iced coffee I asked the barista "BTW, does the PSL still have milk in it?" She replied "Yeah, it does. Are you lactose intolerant?" "Nah, I'm vegan" I said. Then she told me that that was too bad but she has a "die-hard vegan" customer who gets the PSL on the regular and that they (the employees) just don't have the heart to tell her it has dairy.
Umm, ok. I kind of understand it, especially if the person is a regular and has been getting the PSL for years. But then again if she were a so-called "die-hard vegan" (whatever that is...) wouldn't she ask? I guess for this lady ignorance = pumpkin spice bliss?? If I worked at that Starbucks and I knew the lady was vegan though, I would DEFINITELY tell her.
Anyway, all that aside, I have to say I'm all over fall and pumpkin spice flavored things. I made a Pinterest board of all different vegan pumpkin recipes. The pumpkin tiramisu has been a Thanksgiving family favorite for two years now, but I kind of want to make it earlier this year...perhaps for Halloween with chocolate cakes instead of vanilla (OMNOM)
This is a pumpkin spice cream filled doughnut from Vegan Treats at the 2011 DC Veg Fest. UGH SO GOOD. I'm pretty sure this was my first vegan doughnut and I was thrilled.
What do you think of the Starbucks thing? Do you have a favorite pumpkin spice recipe for fall?
